# Staking

SOLV tokens are lockable for a selectable locktime, with a maximum locktime of 1 year. By locking SOLV tokens in the staking contract, the user will receive a balance. SOLV tokens are not transferrable.
The height of the SOLV balance is based on the amount of SOLV tokens locked, and the time left before the tokens unlock. The SOLV tokens locked can be withdrawn before the timelock has expired, however there will be a punishment fee of 25% if you unstake early.
**Important**
DO not add new SOLV tokens to your balance when you have already staked for a chosen period. Always first unstake and stake new SOLV. The APY calculations will not perform correctly when you choose different staking periods or adding on more SOLV to your staking later on.
